The Results of Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy in Iatrogenic Flat Back Syndrome

Abstract
Purpose : To analyze the results ~ radiologic arxi Ginical outcomes after pedrele subtraction osteoRomy in iatrogerlic flat back syndrome: Materiais and Methods: alVe reviewed 12 surgical cases of iatrogenic ff~ beck syndrome from Jarxrary 19A8 to July 2001 with a f011ow-up of more than 12.monlhs.~All cases were females and an average age was 59.8 years (48-66 years). An average foNow-up period was¢¥ 20.4 rrartihs (12=37 montlas). Initial diagnosis were as folbws : kxnbar degenerative kyphosis, m 5 cases; spinal ster>osis, ~ 5 cases; spondyblisthesis, in 2 cases. For clinical evaluation, 10-point pain scale and 5-point scale fw activity level, cosmesis and subjective satisfaction were used. Lumbar brdotic angles and sagittal vertical axis (SVA) were measured.
Results : In radiologic results, an average lumbar lordotic angle at preoperative, postoperative and the last follow~Jp wee 5.13 t 21.69, -31.33 16.32, -27.5016.73 respectively. And avexage SVA at preoperative, postoperative and the last folbw-up were 8.4616.04 cm, 0.62 224 an, 2.8212.81 an respectively. In clinical results, preoperative pain (6), activity (2) and cosrrlesis (1.8) were improved to 3.2, 3 and 3.2 respectively at the last fellow-up. Subjective satisfaction was 3.9.
Condusiort : Pellicle subtraction osteotomy seemed to be very useful surgical option fw improvement of clinical results through recovering of lumbar lordotic angle and sagittal balance in cases of iatrogenic flat back syndrome.
